After seeing our previous series, featuring businesses in the Middleton Grange Market Hall, local business owner Stacey suggested we do a series all about businesses in The Arches. We thought it was a fantastic idea and as a thank you for the suggestion, we are starting with her business La Ama De Casa Spanish Cleaning Products.
Stacey has been running her business from The Arches for 15 months. Since then she has developed a loyal client base who keep coming back for more. Many of her customers are from outside of Hartlepool, others stop by to shop for great products and for a chat with Stacey!
The shop is full of fantastic cleaning products, home fragrances including wax melts, perfumes and small gifts which would make great stocking fillers.
Where did the inspiration come from for your business selling predominately Spanish Cleaning Products?
I wanted to start my own business selling Spanish cleaning products as I noticed a gap in the market for a local shop of this type. I have used Spanish cleaning products for nearly six years so I wanted to share my knowledge of the products and how good a quality they are.
What is your favourite part about running a small business?
My favourite part of running a small business is meeting my lovely customers and building a good rapport with other small businesses and of course I love choosing new stock and taking it home to try.
What makes your business special?
Stacey: The fact is I have a fantastic range of products and I always try to get new stock in which makes my business special. I have lots of knowledge on the products I stock. I’m also based in a great location and I’m open six days a week.
I stock some of Spains biggest brands in cleaning products including Asevi, 3 Brujas, Brumol and Disiclin. I also stock a great selection of Dubai luxury fragrances and air fresheners as well as wax melts, hoover discs, sink fizzies, humidifier juice, carpet powder and candles. These products are handmade from a small business in Liverpool.
Tell us about why you decided to open in The Arches and what your experience is like there.
I happened to be in the right place at the right time when the unit became available at The Arches. The day I viewed the unit there was a camera crew filming the old owner taking some of his stock to be auctioned. I love being part of the Archers shopping village as I’m surrounded by other small businesses who I can go to for advise if I need it. The location is perfect, right in the centre of town with lots of passing trade.
We love your top tips on your social media, tell us your must-know top tip and the one that surprises people the most.
Everyone is surprised by the blue Brumol degreaser spray it is a perfect cleaning cupboard staple. It will clean your oven without the use of harsh chemicals and it is a great stain remover for clothes.
“I absolutely love what I do and I’m so pleased I decided to open up my business and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me.”
Speaking to Stacey, her love for the products and being a small business owner is clear. Her story began with an online business course and she is understandably very proud of what she has achieved in the last 18 months.
Stacey takes pride in the stock and service she offers her customers. Like many other small businesses, she has faced a number of challenges since opening including transport strikes in Spain and more recently Royal Mail postal strikes. Despite the challenges, Stacey continues to work hard, offering the best value and range possible to her customers. She loves what she does and you can really feel that when you visit her shop.
You can support La Ama De Casa Spanish Cleaning Products in lots of ways, many of which are of little or no cost.
