Let’s get organised

The Shop Hartlepool team love to be organised and a trip to the stationery shop is always a talking point. So you can imagine how excited we were to talk to Sarah at Organised Life by Fishburn & Co, a Hartlepool-based online business offering everything you need to get organised!

What made you start the business?

I’ve always loved organising, labelling and stickers and just felt that it was something that could help other people too. I know that many people love to personalise and customise things so it was just a little way for me to get started and to boost my income. I’d bought the machine I use when I got some extra money and I’ve never looked back.

What do you love most about running your own business?

I think the freedom to be able to be creative when I want to be. If I get an idea I can fit it in around the family and kids, and just the fact that I’m doing something I genuinely enjoy. I love seeing how happy it makes customers giving them a bespoke creation.

Do you think it is important for local businesses to support each other?

I think it’s absolutely vital that communities come together and support each other especially after the last 18 months. Many of the big chains have not been as affected but I know so many people who have struggled their way through the pandemic and need that support more than ever. I do think the more we invest in our local community the more of a community we get and that’s something that can’t be replaced.

What are you doing to recover after the pandemic?

I only started Fishburn and Co in the middle of the pandemic so for me it’s building it to a level where I’m able to make a living from it and be able to spread the word and reach out to the people of Hartlepool even more so. I’m doing a lot of research around what’s working and what’s not and looking at how I can reach out to new audiences and customers. I’m really hopeful that with more work I can expand.

Who inspires you?

I don’t think there’s any one individual who has inspired me. People who start a business from scratch and work hard to make it a success are the sort of people that make me feel like I can do this.

What’s your best seller?

I would say at the moment my custom door plaques are flying out because they’re so customisable and unique. There are no two that are the same! And I would say that the name labels are really popular for the kids going back to school and my book bag initial keyrings are really selling well too.
